Thomas Hoxie - Proprietor
Tom is a former vice president and head of the US patent and trademark department for Novartis, one of the world's largest branded and generic pharmaceutical companies. Tom headed the intellectual property litigation function worldwide for Novartis's branded and generic pharmaceuticals and consumer businesses and was deputy global head of pharmaceutical patents. Tom also worked as a patent attorney in the pharmaceutical patent group at Sandoz (a predecessor company to Novartis) in Basel, Switzerland, headed Novartis's agricultural biotechnology patent group in North Carolina, and worked as a litigation attorney in private practice in Baltimore, Maryland and Washington, D.C. Tom has given numerous seminars on patent law to patent attorneys in the United States and Europe and was a tutor in European patent law for the Centre d'Etudes Internationales de la Propriété Industrielle (CEIPI), Université de Strasbourg, Strasbourg, France. He is a Registered Patent Attorney and a member of the New Jersey, Maryland and District of Columbia bars. Tom is also admitted as a solicitor in England and Wales, and he has passed the European Patent Attorney qualifying examination, although he does not at present maintain a practice in Europe. Tom has a B.S. and a J.D. with honors, both from the University of Maryland.

Brian Stegman - Of Counsel
Brian has worked for many years in senior positions in industry patent departments. Prior to joining Hoxie & Associates LLC, Brian was Vice President and Associate General Counsel for Intellectual Property for BASF Corporation. As head of intellectual property for BASF in North America, Brian managed a large group of patent attorneys and gained extensive experience in patent and intellectual property matters relating to chemical, pharmaceutical and agricultural products. Brian was responsible for major licensing matters and intellectual property aspects of strategic transactions, managing litigation, and preparing and prosecuting patents. Brian handled patents in diverse product areas, including Catalysts, Cosmetic Additives, Detergents, Oilfield, Petroleum Refining & Metathesis Processes, and Nutritional & Pharmaceutical Ingredients. As lead attorney for BASF Bioresearch Corporation, he managed intellectual property issues relating to the development of drugs such as Humira®, prior to BASF’s divestiture of Knoll Pharmaceuticals. Brian also worked as an in-house patent attorney at Rohm & Haas Company and Union Carbide Corporation, and before that, he was in private practice in New York City. Brian is a Registered Patent Attorney and a member of the New York, Connecticut and Pennsylvania bars. Brian is not admitted to practice in New Jersey. Brian has a J.D. from Georgetown University, and a B.S. from Adelphi University.

Richard Elder - Of Counsel
Over a long career in patents, Richard has held a variety of senior in-house positions in the pharmaceutical industry, including chief intellectual property counsel for Zeneca Pharmaceuticals in the US, director of patents for Schering-Plough in the areas of animal health and cholesterol-lowering products, and associate division counsel for Abbott Laboratories. He has also worked as a patent attorney at American Home Products, Merck, and Mobay, and in private practice for a large law firm. He has lectured on licensing and on U.S. and international patent law and practices for the Pharmaceutical Educational and Research Institute (formerly PMA Education and research institute). He is a past vice president and current licensing committee chair of the New Jersey Patent Law Association, and also a former university trustee and president of the alumni association of Carnegie Mellon University. Prior to becoming a patent attorney, Richard worked for Dow Chemical Company for over ten years. Richard is a Registered Patent Attorney and a member of the Pennsylvania bar. Richard is not admitted to practice in New Jersey. Richard has a J.D. from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, and a B.S. from Carnegie Mellon University.

Arthur Yang - Associate Attorney
Arthur has worked in private practice in New Jersey and Chicago. Arthur has also worked as a researcher at Abbott Laboratories in the Reagent and Process Development group. Arthur is a Registered Patent Attorney and a member of the New Jersey and Illinois bars. Arthur has a J.D. with honors and Certificate in Intellectual Property from John Marshall Law School, and a B.S. degree in cell and structural biology, minor in chemistry, from University of Illinois at Urbana.

Brittany La - Associate Attorney
Brittany has worked in private practice in New Jersey. Before attending law school, Brittany was a chemist at Bristol-Myers Squibb Company, where she worked to optimize processes for production of active pharmaceutical ingredients, and at Pharm-Eco Laboratories. Brittany is a Registered Patent Attorney and a member of the New Jersey and New York bars. Brittany has a J.D. from Rutgers University School of Law and a B.A. in chemistry from Wesleyan University.

Jay is a Registered Patent Attorney and a member of the New York, Florida and Wisconsin bars. Jay is not admitted in New Jersey. Jay has a J.D. from the University of Wisconsin Law School, a M.S. in biochemistry and molecular biology from New York Medical College, and a B.S. in biological sciences from Fordham University.
